Snacks and Mealtimes
At Lincoln Carlton Academy, we believe all children and adults deserve to have an enjoyable, happy and safe lunchtime.
To encourage children to do their best and achieve we follow the procedures below when dealing with behaviour at lunchtime. Our expectations for behaviour centre on our golden rules.
Our lunchtime rules
Children and staff are expected to follow our Golden Rules and values at all times. These help the school community to function harmoniously, so that everyone can achieve their full potential.
We have a wonderful new Trim Trail which is available along with lunchtime equipment. Our lunchtime supervisors are trained to create safe and fun play opportunities.
School Meals
School dinners are provided by our very own Chef and his kitchen team based in our school kitchen.
All children in Reception up to Year 2 are entitled to free lunches under the Government’s Universal Infant Free School Meals scheme. For children in Years 3 upwards, meals can be ordered online through ParentPay at the price of £2.60 per meal.
You can view current menus at the bottom of this page. Please let the school office know if your child has special dietary requirements as this can be catered for.
If you choose to provide your child with a packed lunch, it must not require the use of a fridge, oven, kettle, or microwave. Please try to send your child to school with a healthy packed lunch. We do not allow fizzy drinks in school. All children are provided with the option of water or milk.
Packed Lunches
All food prepared in school has to meet strict guidelines as set out in the School Food Standards document ( School food standards practical guide - GOV.UK ). Chef and the team work incredibly hard to meet these standards as we know that developing healthy eating habits at a young age supports children as they move into adulthood. We are very keen to continue this for children who bring a packed lunch to school from home. The standards state that a child’s healthy, balanced diet should consist of:
- plenty of fruit and vegetables
- plenty of unrefined starchy foods
- some meat, fish, eggs, beans and other non-dairy sources of protein
- some milk and dairy foods
- a small amount of food and drink high in fat, sugar and salt
Below, you will find a handy document created by Southampton City Council to support you in making choices for your child’s packed lunch.
Please note that the following items are not allowed in lunchboxes:
- Fizzy drinks
- Sweets – eg. Haribo, boiled sweets, skittles
- Chocolate bars – eg. Dairy Milk, Maltesers, Mars Bar
- Fast food items: burgers, chips, chicken nuggets
Snacks
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are provided with a piece of fruit every morning through the School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme. In Years 3 to 6, children can bring a snack in from home to eat during morning break. Our preference would be for this to be a piece of fresh fruit or vegetables please to continue the transition from Year 2. We are aware that there are as handful of children who have specific requirements, and they may of course continue to bring their usual snack.
Free milk
Up until the age of 5, children will receive a free carton of milk every day. Children in Year One or Year Two classes who are eligible for Pupil Premium will also be provided with milk by the school each day. If you would like your Year One or Year Two child to receive this, please register your child with our provider, Cool Milk, using the link below.
